Fine Dotted Pleco L262 Hypancistrus Sp., is a stunning looking species of pleco. In the wild, it is found in the Rio Tapajos, a part of the Amazon River that runs through Brazil. It is a close relative of the Queen Arabesque Pleco L260. Like most Hypancistrus, the Fine Dotted Pleco L262 is a rather small species. Full grown, it reaches a maximum of 10cm. The body is grey to black in colour, with numerous, dense small spots. Sometimes they display lighter patches of grey on the body, giving them a slightly mottled appearance. Fine Dotted Pleco L262 are not aggressive with each other, or other fish species. Ensure plenty of caves and hiding places to provide enough territories if keeping them in a group. Good tank mates include species of tetra, Corydora, Rasbora and dwarf cichlids. These plecos like highly oxygenated water and prefer slightly acidic conditions, so a stable pH of between 6.5-7.2 is best. Fine Dotted Plecos prefer slightly warmer conditions, somewhere between 26°C-30°C is ideal. Sexing this species as adults is quite easy. Mature males have a thicker first pectoral ray with pronounced odontodes. Males heads tend to be wider too. Females are wider around the middle of the body, and have much less obvious odontodes. Fine Dotted Pleco L262 feeding requirements In the wild, the Fine Dotted Pleco is omnivorous with a preference of insect larvae, crustaceans, other protein based foods. In the aquarium they are happily omnivorous and will accept a mixture of different foods. To keep them healthy and in good condition, a combination of insect and protein based foods is a must. Here at the Abyss Aquatic Warehouse we believe in only providing the best for our customers. For this reason all our fish are fed a varied diet of dried and frozen foods enriched with vitamins. Also, we ensure they are in perfect condition before they are shipped out. To view our other Pleco species please click here.
