Sub Adult Grey or Gray Angelfish, Pomacanthus arcuatus, are magnificent fish with impressive sail like fins. Like many members of the Pomacanthus genus, adults and juveniles have different colour morphs. These fish are extremely attractive. Juvenile Gray Angelfish have jet black, triangular bodies, which feature four yellow bands. Adults have grey bodies and have pale faces and fat white lips. Adult Gray Angelfish don’t have these bold stripes. However they do show off an array of dusky blue polka dots. They also have the same colour highlights across their fins. Large Angels are from the Pomacanthidae family. A group famous for their vivid colours. The name Pomacanthidae is Greek for, “cover” (poma) and “thorn” (akantha), which refers to the pair of strong spines on the gill cover. Have a look at our WYSIWYG selection! Gray Angelfish Sub Adult Ecology. Sub Adult Gray Angelfish occur on coral reefs in the Western Atlantic, around: the Caribbean, Rio de Janeiro and USA. They also live in the Gulf of Mexico In the wild, these large Angelfish are extremely confident and inquisitive. They will often approach divers and interact with them. This character trait makes them highly desirable pets. In nature, Gray Angels graze on sessile invertebrates and macroalgae. This makes them risky for marine tanks with coral, as they can nip. However, it may be possible to keep some carefully selected corals in the same tank as the Sub Adult Gray Angelfish. We ask you consult a member of staff if you want for details. Pomacanthus arcuatus In the Aquarium. It is important to have plenty of nooks or crannies where your Sub Adult Gray Angelfish can explore and feel at home. Keepers may also want to get a jump guard to stop any accidents. Sub Adult Gray Angelfish are omnivores and do best when fed a varied diet. They will accept frozen Mysis shrimp and enriched frozen brine shrimp. We enrich all our frozen food with garlic and vitamins. These are great for keeping fish healthy by providing them with the nutrition otherwise lost in frozen food. In doing so, these additives support their immune system and increase longevity. These fish will also graze on marine algae that can be secured to the side of the tank with clips. Over time they will accept high-quality pellet or flake.
