Flagfin Angelfish Adult, Apolemichthys trimaculatus, also go by the name Three Spot Angelfish. Like many members of this genus, adults and juveniles look like one another. The Flagfin Angelfish showcases a breath taking combination of colours and patterns. The fish gets it name from the black and yellow anal fin. It boasts a fantastic bright yellow adorned with bright yellow vertical stripes, its head is crowned with three black spots, from which it derives its scientific name “trimaculatus” (meaning “three-spotted”). Large Angels are from the Pomacanthidae family. The name is Greek for, “cover” (poma) and “thorn” (akantha), which refers to the pair of strong spines on the gill cover. Flagfin Angelfish, Apolemichthys trimaculatus, Ecology. The Flagfin Angelfish Apolemichthys trimaculatus is native to the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Its natural range encompasses various areas, including the Red Sea, the Maldives, and the Great Barrier Reef, among others. These beautiful angelfish are commonly found in the coral-rich environments, including reef slopes, drop-offs, and lagoons within their natural habitat in the Indo-Pacific. Their striking appearance and graceful presence make them a notable and captivating species for those who explore these marine ecosystems. In nature, Flagfin Angelfish graze on macroalgae and sessile invertebrates, such as sponge and tunicates. Their eating habits make them unsuitable for marine aquariums with coral, as they do tend to nip. However, it may be possible to keep some carefully selected coral species in the same tank as this fish. We strongly recommend consulting a member of staff on the issue. Three Spot Angelfish In The Aquarium. It is important to have plenty of nooks or crannies where your Flagfin Angelfish can explore and feel at home. Keepers may also want to get a jump guard to stop any accidents. These fish are omnivores and do best when fed a varied diet. They will accept frozen Mysis shrimp and enriched frozen brine shrimp. We enrich all our frozen food with garlic and vitamins. These are great for keeping fish healthy by providing them with the nutrition otherwise lost in frozen food. In doing so, these additives support their immune system and increase longevity. Flagfin Angelfish will graze on marine algae that can be secured to the side of the tank with clips. Over time they will accept high-quality pellet or flake. We adapt all our Angel Fish to aquarium life before they leave us. We focus on their health, and most are eating a good quality flake food and/or pellet before being offered for sale. Angelfish can live in a mixed group or alone. Feel free to give us a call with any questions.
